Founder Institute Chicago - Spring Semester - App Deadline 2/10

The Founder Instiute is the world's largest startup accelerator that has helped launch over 650 companies across 37 cities and five continents. We are accepting applications for our Chicago Spring semester until 2/10.

We have already successfully graduated two classes of founders in Chicago. Mentors for our upcoming semester include founders of Priceline, Vibes, iExplore, crowdSPRING, Spartz Media, DivX, and ContextMedia.

Who should apply?

Anybody who is passionate building a technology company is welcome to apply: idea or no idea, full-time job or unemployed, young or old, male or female, experienced in business or straight out of school.

Founder Night Out - 1/21 - Chicago Event

Below is information about an event that I have organized for the Founder Institute.

The Founder Night Out is a unique opportunity to enjoy a collaborative and open environment where you can meet local startup founders and CEOs, discuss your ideas, ask questions, and learn about the Founder Institute. Many past Founder Institute Graduates will be in attendance, along with the local director and some prestigious local technology CEOs. Join us for drinks and some startup networking! Food will be provided courtesy of Rivers Casino.

Why "It's Who You Know" is Only Part of the Equation

In business, we often hear that "it is who you know", not "what you know". Well, this is often true for most situations. By having a diverse and quality network at your disposal, you will have a great foundation to accelerate your career or business.

However, the "who you know" doesn't always come into play until you can demonstrate "what you know". By demonstrating a subject matter expertise, you will be able to start building meaningful and long lasting relationships. People naturally gravitate towards others who can provide value.

A good source of new contacts is referrals. The fact that someone took the time to make an introduction says a lot about who you are as a professional. Chances are is that you were introduced because of your character and your expertise.

It is extremely important that others understand your knowledge base so you stand out in the business community. Once that happens, you will become the "who you know" in someone else's network. By adding value to others, your network will continue to grow and provide value to you.

Take the time to beef up the "what you know" so the "who you know" is a natural extension of you. By having both elements, you will be in a much better position to capitalize on your relationships.
