While first impressions are very important, don’t always judge a book by its cover. If you see someone from afar who may not be dressed properly, then don’t automatically discount this person as someone not to get to know. You may be missing an opportunity to meet someone very important for your network.
At the same time, you may read an article by someone who you don’t agree with or listen to a talk that doesn’t resonate with you. It is okay if you don’t have the same style or views of others. This is what makes us all unique and allows us to create diverse networks.
To avoid missing these opportunities take the time to get to know these people by having a conversation. If you don’t connect with people after you talk, then there is no problem of not carrying the relationship forward.
Don’t be too quick to discount others before you get to know them. Some of the best connections are made with people you least expect.
