Not sure whether it's right, but most of the time my goal of networking is to network, know more people,looking forward to their strengths, goal and their dreams,etc.
Only afterwards, I will see how I will need them, or how we can help them or selling them smthg if we're in the business or sales position.

To meet new people is a good goal. Sometimes you don't have to have a motive for wanting to meet certain people. I take a similar approach as well. I enjoy meeting people and then finding ways to help each other. But if you do have a need, then you should strategize and figure out a way to get in front of the people who you need.
