Opportunity to do "community service" at an event by offering help to others first.
I prefer what I call the Pay It Forward style of networking and practice it all the time. I also wrote a handy little book about making the most of out of your time at networking events and wish I'd come across your post sooner so I could have included it!

Good points you got there. I firmly believe that social networking shouldn't stop at online alone. Let us interact with our friends physically.

I agree Marc. Online networking is only one component. Taking it offline is very important for building long term relationships.
