Jason,

Good ideas on the importance of networking events. We recommend that every job seeker should be involved in networking events through trade associations, functional disciplines, and local job search networking groups.

Most job seekers do a very poor job of leveraging networking events for their job search.

Your advice is spot on regarding the need to continue networking once you've got a job. Every professional should belong to their industry association and functional specialization association.

All these groups hold monthly mixers, educational sessions, and provide opportunities to network and assume leadership roles among peers. Not doing this once you land a job will affect negatively affect your future success.
