It is amazing to me when I am at networking events and some people tell me that they ran out of business cards. I equate this to McDonald’s running out of hamburgers. One of your sole purposes for attending an event is to meet people. So, you should have enough cards to hand out.
It is hard to take people serious when they run out of cards. This tells me that they are 1) unprepared and unorganized, 2) don’t fully understand networking, or 3) lying to me. You never want to run out of cards. Make sure to bring more than you think you need. In fact, most business card holders don’t hold enough cards. It is very easy to run out so bring extras that you can put in your pocket, portfolio, or purse.
An easy way to run out of cards is if an event has several sponsors and they have table drawings for raffle prizes. Always bring extra for this possibility.
If someone asks you for your card, then give it to this person. Don’t lie and say that you ran out. This sends a bad message and you will probably be caught. This person will most likely see you giving cards out to other people. It is a turn off to me when someone tells me this so I don’t ever want to put someone in this situation.
One good way not to run out is to put cards in all of your suit and jacket pockets, portfolios, purses, car, office, home, and business card holders. Make sure that all of these sources are always stocked with cards.

This is a very informative site and I'm really enjoying reading all your posts. However, and I say this with the best intentions, please use adverbs where they belong. It's hard to take seriously someone who says, "It's hard to take people serious."

Thanks Evan. While I try my best to write grammatically correct on all blog posts, sometimes I miss things. Most people understand that this happens with blogs from time to time. Thanks for reading.

I just love all the totes - the variety of materials is fun to see! I have a stack of old blue jeans I am going to cut up and have a tote made with jean material and I wonder if corduroy would work as well. I can't wait to get some more made.
