The word “networking” elicits a different feeling for everyone. Think about your first reaction when you hear the word “networking.” Are you frustrated? Are you excited? Does it get your juices flowing?
Your feeling has a lot do with the act of networking. Do you like to go to networking events? Do you like helping others? Do you hate when people try to sell you something when first meeting them?
We are have had mixed experiences when attending events and trying to leverage our own networks. Some people only begin to network when they need something such as a job. Others are continuously networking, especially if they are in sales.
If you can’t stand networking, then think about why that is. It will help you to better understand and work towards overcoming that feeling. Let’s face it; you need to build relationships in today’s world. Your social capital is one of your biggest assets.
If you enjoy networking, then also think about why that is. It will help you to better appreciate it and work towards getting better at it. You can always improve the efficiency and quality of building your network.
