With a downturn in the economy happening, many people are losing their jobs. Let’s hope that these people have built relationships that they can leverage. Here are five ways that you can find a job through networking:
1. Reach out to your current network and let them know you are looking for a new career opportunity. It is a good idea for you to have a career, industry, or company focus so people can figure out how to best help you.
2. Leverage online professional networking sites such as LinkedIn to search for jobs or firms and then utilize the system to get in front of the right people.
3. Get involved with business listservs or email groups in which people post jobs and you can post your needs as well.
4. Attend networking events so you can meet new people who may be able to help you. Keep in mind that you need to establish relationships with these new people before they will feel comfortable opening up their network. Of course, they may have job openings at their firms.
5. Leverage your alumni network to reach out to people who may be able to help you. Check out your alma mater’s career center, which may have services to help.
