It is important that people remember you during the networking process. You will meet a lot of people over the course of an evening, week, or year. How do you get them to remember you? A very effective way is “personal branding.”
You need to be different from others so you don’t get lost in the crowd. Branding yourself is so important that it will make a difference as to how successful you are as a networker.
From personal experience, I can tell you that my branding around “relationship building” has had a major impact on my life. Without my efforts to stand out and to help others, I would not be where I am today in my career.
So, how do you start branding yourself?
Pick a Topic of Passion
Find a topic that you are passionate about and integrate it into your life. Study the topic, stay on top of it, and let people know that it is your expertise. Make sure that you are consistent in demonstrating your expertise so people will associate you with this topic.
Write about Your Passion
Find outlets for you to write about your topic such as blogs, articles, newsletter, etc. Seek out these opportunities as well as create your own.
Speak about Your Passion
Find speaking opportunities for you to further demonstrate your knowledge. Approach networking organizations, conferences, and corporations and inquiry about speaking gigs. Also, create your own seminars and invite your network.
Portray a Good Demeanor
People will remember you for the way you act. Make sure that you are true to yourself and act professional and courteous at all times.
Consistency
You need to be consistent in your actions and how you portray yourself to others. Without doing this, you will have a difficult time getting people to remember you. Make sure you are committed and stay focused.
