In order to be a good relationship builder, you need to always be thinking about how you can help others. You don’t need to do anything large to make an impact. In fact, lots of little gestures can go a long way. So, below are 15 ways that you can be a good citizen and help people during the winter. These little gestures will showcase you as a “giver” and will really take your relationships to the next level. Plus, it is cold and people appreciate the extra help!
1. Shovel or snow plow a neighbor’s driveway
2. Flag down a cab for someone
3. Scrap the ice off of your friend’s car
4. Put salt on a neighbor’s driveway and sidewalk
5. Help a friend hang up Christmas lights
6. Cook a hot meal for someone
7. Donate some food to your local food pantry
8. Volunteer your time at a shelter or food pantry
9. Donate some warm clothes to those in need
10. Offer to drive a colleague to a work or a networking event
11. Take your neighbor’s kids sledding
12. Buy someone a coffee or hot chocolate
13. Take a contact out to lunch or dinner
14. Loan your scarf or gloves to a co-worker
15. Open an office door for a colleague
With the above list, I intentionally focused on demonstrating kindness towards the personal side rather than towards the business side of relationships. In order for the business aspects to eventually develop any further, you need to get to know people on a personal level. So, show others what you are capable of first by helping them in their lives.

This is a great tip. Thank you for sharing. I believe this idea relates back to the principle of Guanxi so popular among Chinese business people.

Great comments. Too many people care about themselves only. Time we all shared.
Costs nothing to volunteer!

I like to impact the environment a bit by picking up one piece of trash and putting it in a garbage can when I'm at a park for a walk or even going through town on my way to the coffee shop. That's one less piece that I didn't put there.

This is a great list, Jason. I really find it helpful to cultivate a spirit of generosity as a way of getting past a lot of the negatives and stresses of this time of year. Thanks for the reminders.

Thanks for the recent comments. I am glad that you feel the same way as I do about cultivating a sense of giving to others. This should really carry forward throughout your every day life, not just during the holidays.
