Why do we spend time networking? What is so important about meeting people? What is the benefit of building relationships?
The above questions are contemplated by many people who don’t understand the value of building relationships. Many people don’t want to take the time meeting people and nurturing relationships. With everyone so busy these days, some individuals would rather spend downtime relaxing in their own way such as eating lunch with friends, watching sports at bars, or spending time with family at home.
I agree that downtime is important and it is necessary to spend time with people close to you. However, don’t forget to network because knowing people outside of your inner core is very important for business and personal success.
So what is so special about networking?
We network because one of our innate abilities is to hold relationships with people. It is just a fact of life that you can’t avoid. We all have relationships whether it is with family, friends, or co-workers.
The reason that people network is so that they can have a pool of contacts to draw upon when needed. The more variety of people within your network, the more you will be able to broaden your reach and achieve your goals.
Of course, you should focus on building mutually exclusive relationships so it is a two sided relationship. Part of what makes networking fun is that you can help each other and feel satisfied.
Without a variety of people at your disposal, you may be missing out on a core component of life – learning from others. By getting to know people, you will learn about their line of work, hobbies, and expertise. Every person is different so become a student of people. You will be amazed at what you will find out and capture in your knowledge bank.
Show an interest in people and you will enjoy networking.
Over time, you will see direct benefits of networking by closing more sales, gaining more friends, and being recognized as a subject matter expert. If you take the time to network on a regular basis, then it will become seamless and part of your life.
Give yourself the opportunity to meet people because you never know who you will meet. The possibilities are endless.
