Tonight, I attended a new technology event in Chicago, Web Ascent Events, that was sponsored by Mashable.com. My organization, Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center, was one of the supporters as well. Because of my firm's involvement, I manned a table part of the night with some of our materials.
Anyways, the main premise of this event was to connect Silicon Valley tech entrepreneurs with Chicago tech entrepreneurs. Several company presentations occured, which included Chicago-based MediaRiver and timeXchange.
Apparently, these events happen in other cities as well. While the Valley is the center of technology, it still doesn't mean that technology is not thriving in other cities. Chicago is a vibrant technology community so this event helped to showcase this. At the same time, Chicago's technology community already comes together at various gatherings such as BARcamp Chicago (happening this weekend) and TECH Cocktail.
The bottom line is that this was another event that brought technology folks together so they could build connections. You can never have enough of these events. Congratulations to the organizer, Kristen Nicole, for organizing a successful event.
